My Wiradjuri story: I first saw dhundhu at the age of seven. It was at the end of a seven year drought. Dad took to us kids to see the beautiful dhundhu resting on a billabong filled by recent floods. He told us that they were migrating to the east coast from Western Australia. They only stopped because of the water. We had not seen them before because there was not reason for them to lay over. Our area of NSW is not suitable for the life cycle of dhundhu. It was a wondrous sighting! We sat and listened to Dad's talk about the dhundhu and other flood stories. Many years later, I come to learn that our mother's family belongs to the Wiradjuri Mob. We were never told as kids because she was afraid that we would be taken and lost to the Stolen Generation. Dad never broke his promise to her. Family genealogy revealed the truth
Vicki B Littell is an Australian watercolor artist living in Florida. She has been professionally creating art since 2016. Her work is influenced by her love of the "sunburnt country" and people's life stories. Her unique style is easily recognized by the brilliant translucency of primary watercolors. She mixes realism with impressionism, and focuses on the mood of the subject whether be a moment in time, a landscape or a portrait. Vicki believes a painting is not complete until the soul is captured. While watercolors are her favorite medium, she enjoys sketching in graphite and charcoal. Often times Vicki will refer to her urban sketch journals for inspiration. She carries a sketch pad to capture the feel of a scene and documents it...
